Field Lacrosse
Welcome to Knight’s Field Lacrosse.
Field Lacrosse is an exciting game played outside on the soccer pitch. There are two formats, 10-on-10 for the older boys and girls which is played on the full field, or 7-on-7 for younger players which is played on a smaller pitch. Field Lacrosse is a great game for a runner. With less contact and equipment than Box Lacrosse, Field is an exciting, high-paced game with lots of flow.
Fall 2010 Field Lacrosse Program
The Knights are once again running a fall field lacrosse program open to all Knights players. We will be making a few changes this year to help the program run a bit more smoothly. As always, we are in need of volunteers, especially coaches. We only have a small contingent of coaches and in order for the program to continue, new coaches must come forward. Volunteers will be paired up with and mentored by more experienced coaches to gain the necessary experience to eventually take on their own team. The field lacrosse practices will take place Saturday mornings 10am - 12pm at Confederation HS (next to the Nepean Sportsplex).
We would like to thank Shelley Emberson for all of her hard work to get the program up and running. The coordination of the field program is being taken over this season by Kathi Moran-Weeks. All inquiries about the field program should be sent to Kathi at this address Field Coordinator
Changes to the program will include a better sorting of players into groups that match their skill levels. We have seen a large range of skills levels at the age groups and in order to help foster a better development environment, we are going to sort the players into groups according to their skill level, not necessarily by age groups for the Saturday morning practice and scrimmages . For intra-zone games against other Associations, teams will still be made according to age levels. We feel that this will help the coaches teach the skills at an appropriate level that is neither too advanced or not challenging enough for the players' skill levels.
All players will take part in the exhibition games against the other Associations, which at this time is Gloucester, Ottawa Nemesis, and West Island (Montreal). Other games may be arranged if teams are available. In order to address previous concerns on teams and play time for competitive games where players would show up only for those games and not for regular practices, the teams for competitive tournaments, such as the TurkeyShoot in Rochester, will now be selected by the coach based first and foremost on attendence on Saturday mornings, and then regular game attendence, and skill level. We feel that this approach encourages the commitment to the program. Multiple teams may be entered into the tournaments where numbers and coaching allows.
The fee structure will be changed slight for 2010 as well. The fees will be
- Programs Fee: $85
- Jersey Fee: $30 (if needed - last year's can be used)
- Tournament Fee*:TBD
* The tournament fee will be for those players selected to play and will be the overall fee divided by the number of players on the the team. Commitment to play will be asked for by paying the fee which will be non-refundable. This is necessary as there have been problems with players pulling out at the last minute.
Registration will take place on the first morning, Saturday August 14, at the field behind the former Confederation High School, next to the Nepean Sportsplex. Players who did not play field lacrosse last year must bring a copy of their birth certificate in order to register.
